Vascular Plants
Australian Plant Name Index (APNI)
The Australian Plant Name Index (APNI) is a tool for the botanical community that deals with plant names and their usage in the scientific literature, whether as a current name or synonym. APNI does not recommend any particular taxonomy or nomenclature. For a listing of currently accepted scientific names for the Australian vascular flora, please use the Australian Plant Census (APC) link above.
Lectotype:"New South Wales, Port Jackson; R. BROWN, Dist. No. 3040 (BM–holo.!, K–iso.!)."
Comment:Although Scott refers to a "holotype" and "isotype" these terms are in error, as Brown did not designate a holotype as defined by ICN Art. 9.1 (Melbourne Code, 2012) in the protologue. Scott's citation is thus here treated as an effective lectotypification under Art. 9.9 (Melbourne Code, 2012).
Type:"Port Jackson, New South Wales, Australia, R. Brown s.n. [Bennett No. 3040] (lectotype fide A.J. Scott, Feddes Repert. 89: 4 (1978): BM 001010211 image seen; isolectotypes: BM 001015889 image seen, K 000898399 [plant of the bottom-half of the sheet] image seen, MEL 545196 image seen)."
Text:"In the protologue, Brown (1810...) indicated that he observed living plants at Port Jackson via the citation ‘(J.) v. v.’ (meaning ‘Port Jackson, vidi vivo’) but did not cite any particular specimen that can be regarded as the holotype (as defined by ICN Art. 9.1: McNeill et al. 2012). Scott’s (1978...) reference to the specimen from Brown’s own herbarium with a Bennett number of 3040 (BM 001010211) as the ‘holotype’ is an error to be corrected to ‘lectotype’ according to ICN Art. 9.9 (McNeill et al. 2012)."
