Australian Plant Name Index (APNI)
The Australian Plant Name Index (APNI) is a tool for the botanical community that deals with plant names and their usage in the scientific literature, whether as a current name or synonym. APNI does not recommend any particular taxonomy or nomenclature. For a listing of currently accepted scientific names for the Australian vascular flora, please use the Australian Plant Census (APC) link above.
APC Comment:A.D.Chapman, Austral. Pl. Name Index 2590 (1991) stated that Poiret did not validly make the combination Schoenus anceps and indicated that the combination was validly made by Roemer & Schultes (Syst. Veg. 16th edn, 2: 77 (1817)). However, under Article 33.1 of the 2006 (Vienna) edition of the ICBN, this name is considered to be validly published by Poiret and Roemer & Schultes' use of this name is considered to be a secondary reference. Chapman, op. cit. 2593 also records the name Schoenus elongatus (Nees) F.Muell. as "nom. illeg. non Kunth (1837)"; however, this name is invalid, as it is published in synonymy by Kunth, Enum. Pl. 2: 312 (1837) under Asterochaete elongata Kunth (now treated as Costularia elongata (Kunth) Kuk., from the Mascarene Islands).
