  • Etymology: "The name is presumably a reference to cajeput oil, an essential oil present in the leaves of many plants from the family Myrtaceae, of which Eucalyptus is a member (cajeput oil consists mainly of cineol, which is also the main constituent of Eucalyptus oil). The name 'cajeput' is from the Indonesian kayu meaning 'white' [sic; 'wood'] and putih meaning 'wood' [sic; 'white'], in reference to the Melaleuca species from which the oil is traditionally produced."
