The names Rubus ulmifolius (and Rubus ulmifolius 'hybrid') have been widely misapplied in Australia, particularly to R. anglocandicans. Rubus ulmifolius is the only diploid sexually reproducing species of the R. fruticosus agg. in Australia. See K.J.Evans et al., Aust. Syst. Bot. 20: 234 (2007) for further discussion.
