• Comment: Dockrill cites the basionym of this name as "Dendrobium bigibbum Ldl. var. compactum C. T. White", rather than Dendrobium phalaenopsis var. compactum C.T.White. However, as Dockrill correctly gives the place of publication of the basionym as "Aust. Orchid Rev. 6(1941)53", this is here treated as an error of citation following ICN Art. 41.6 (Melbourne Code, 2012).
• Comment: Dockrill cites both "Dendrobium bigibbum Ldl. ... forma compactum (C. T. White) G. L. Piper, Aust. Orchid Rev. 15(1950)40" and "Dendrobium bigibbum Ldl. forma compactum (C. T. White) St. Cloud" [N. Queensland Nat. 24(115): 18 (1956)] in synonymy of his new combination, Dendrobium bigibbum subvar. compactum (C.T.White) Dockrill. Since neither Piper's nor St.Cloud's names at the rank of forma were validly published but Dockrill does not indicate this, he is here considered to have published the name Dendrobium bigibbum f. compactum as a nom. inval., pro syn.
