• Text: "Parmentier described this species from a sterile specimen sent to him by Mueller as 'Drimys'. On examining the anatomy of the leaves and stem he found, not surprisingly, that it was quite different from other species of Drimys, and described it as new. The mistaken generic identification was apparently not noted until 1957 when Dr J. H. Willis annotated the type specimen in MEL 'Persoonia gunnii'. It was only this annotation that caused the specimen (and description) to be brought to my attention when I borrowed the Tasmanian collections from that herbarium."
