Labillardiere attributes the name to "Smith, Decandrous papilionaceous plants of New Holl. , p. 9 , from the Annals of Botany , vol. 1." [i.e. J.E.Smith, Ann. Bot. 1(3): 507 (1805)], but the spelling used by Smith is umbellulata. This is treated here as being a correctable error by Labillardiere.
