Bentham attributes this name to "F. Muell. Fragm. vii. 68" [i.e. F.J.H. von Mueller, Fragm. 7(53): 68 (1870)]. While Mueller indicates that Caesia lateriflora may be better placed in Corynotheca, the genus name was not validly published at the time and Mueller did not definitely associate it with the species epithet (ICN Art. 35 (Shenzhen Code, 2018)).
