Myrtaceae Juss.
Lhotskya violacea var. merralliana F.Muell. & Tate , legitimate, scientific
Mueller, F.J.H. von & Tate, R. (June 1896), Botany. Phanerogams and Vascular Cryptogams. Transactions, proceedings and report, Royal Society of South Australia 16(3): 355 BHL [tax. nov.]
  • Type: "W.A. Between Red Hill and Yilgarn. Also sent by the late Mr. Merrell from near the eastern sources of Swan River."
  • Etymology: (not specified.) [but presumably named in honour of E.Merrall (?1844–1913), collector of some of the original material]
  • Comment: Mueller & Tate's indication that Merrall, the collector of original material from "near the eastern sources of the Swan River", was deceased at the time of their publication is in error, as is their spelling of his surname. Merrall's name is given correctly on the label of the material held in MEL. The orthographical error in the varietal epithet is corrected here following ICN Art. 60.1 (Shenzhen Code, 2018).

  • Lectotype: "Western Australia. Between Red Kangaroo Hill and Yilgarn, Nov. 1891, Helms s.n. (MEL, lecto.; AD, MEL, isolecto.)."
  • Text: "Although 'Merrell' is the spelling used by Mueller and Tate in the epithet, Mueller has written the collector's name as 'Merrall' on the label of the paratype."
