  • Text: Type material appears non existent rendering correct placement of the name impossible at this stage. From the description, however, with respect to the nature of the ovules it is clear that the name is not applicable to any species of Pseudanthus Spreng. Walsh (1996) treated it as a synonym of Muehlenbeckea axillaris (Hook.f.) Endl., applicable to plants in family Polygonaceae.
  • APC Comment: V. Stasjic notes (pers. comm. 2005) the existence of a probable syntype in MEL (MEL 2016080) with the following label data: "South Esk? near Avoca? Tasmania, 1900, L. Rodway". Material comprises six fragments (3-10 cm long) mounted on the sheet, and is a good match for Muehlenbeckia axillaris (Polygonacaeae). A letter also accompanies the sheet: "Hobart, Jan 7th/00 Dear Mr Luehmann, I have not yet finished my very small paper but will post it before Thursday. I put it off till the last minute & then was much disturbed by a bad attack of influenza. I enclose small specimens of what I take to be a new Pseudanthus. Would you kindly give me the benefit of your larger experience. If new I propose to name it P. tasmanicus & get it published in our (R.S.Tas) forthcoming [indecipherable]. Yours [indecipherable], L. Rodway"
