• Etymology: "The name Gillii will commemorate Mr. Walter Gill, F.L.S., and also Mr. Thomas Gill, I.S.O., to whom I have already alluded."
• Comment: The varietal epithet was published by Maiden as "gillii" but he also states that the taxon was named in honour of two males with the surname Gill. The epithet is thus corrected here to gilliorum in accordance with ICN Art. 60.8 (Shenzhen Code, 2018).
