This combination is sometimes attributed to R.Brown, Prodr. 224 (1810). Brown lists Scirpus geniculatus L. as belonging to his new genus Eleocharis but does not definitely associate the genus and species names as required by ICN Art. 35.2 (Melbourne Code, 2012).

APC Comment:
R.Brown, Prodr. 224 (1810), indicates but does not validly make the combination Eleocharis geniculata. A.D.Chapman, Austral. Pl. Name Index 2607 (1991) stated that Poiret did not validly make the combination Scirpus setaceus. However, under Article 33.1 of the 2006 (Vienna) edition of the ICBN, this name is considered to be validly published.
