  • Comment: A.D.Chapman, Austral. Pl. Names Index 58 (1991), cites a name "Acacia longifolia Paxton... nom. illeg. non Willd. (1806)" with this reference. However, since Paxton refers to the "nearly half a century [that] has elapsed since it was introduced" and includes Mimosa longifolia Andrews in synonymy this is here treated as a secondary reference to Acacia longifolia (Andrews) Willd. rather than an attempt by Paxton to publish a new name.

  • APC Comment: Chapman, APNI 58 (1991) listed an "Acacia longifolia Paxton, nom. illeg." Paxton, Magazine of Botany 12: 269 (1846) described and illustrated an "Acacia longifolia", but on the basis that it was a species that had been known for about 50 years, and cited as synonyms Mimosa longifolia, M. macrostachya and Acacia floribunda. It is clear that he was merely using the existing name A. longifolia (Andrews) Willd. without citing authorities, and not intending to describe a new taxon.
