Hybrids between E. coolabah and E. largiflorens are recorded (Hill & Johnson, 1994). A reputed hybrid E. camaldulensis x E. largiflorens is the basis for E. oxypoma Blakely (Pryor & Johnson, 1971; Chippendale, 1988). Hybrids are known in Qld between E. largiflorens and E. populnea (Henderson, 2002).

Etymology:
From the Latin largus meaning 'abundant', and florens meaning 'blooming', referring to the plentiful flowers. The name is somewhat misleading as the flowers are relatively small and are not particularly showy.
