Steudel attributes this name to "C. A. Meyer", perhaps in reference to C.A.Meyer in C.F. von Ledebour, Fl. Altaica 1: 11 (1829). While Meyer indicated in a footnote in that work that Chenopodium pumilio R.Br. should be placed in the genus Blitum L., he did not definitely associate the genus name and species epithet as required by ICN Art. 35.2 (Shenzhen Code, 2018).
