Bignoniaceae Juss.
Bignonia pandorana Andrews , legitimate, scientific
Andrews, H.C. (1800), The Botanist's Repository for New, and Rare Plants 2: t. 86 [tax. nov.]
  • Type: "is a native of Norfolk Island in the Pacific Ocean, lying in 29 deg. 2 min. south lat. ... Colonel Paterson, now commanding at Port Jackson, New Holland, sent the seeds from Norfolk Island, when he was stationed there, to Messrs. Lee and Kennedy Hammersmith, who first raised it, in the year 1793."
  • Comment: F.Stafleu & R.S.Cowan, Tax. Lit. 2nd edn, 1: 51 (1976) give the author of Bignonia pandorana as "probably ... John Kennedy", but as there is no internal evidence in the work to indicate this, Andrews is accepted here as the author (see ICBN Art. 46.7 (2005)).
