Etymology:
"Named after Ken Spurge (24 Apr 1933–), an apiarist from Waroona in Western Australia, who was the first to recognise the distinctiveness of the subspecies, and alerted us to it. Spurge not only noticed that this subspecies flowered much earlier in the season
than the other subspecies of jarrah, but also found the honey to have quite different characteristics, including
in colour and taste."
