  • Etymology: "The subspecies name (a noun in apposition) is from lutruwita (pronounced loo-tru-wee-ta), the Indigenous Australian name for Tasmania, to which the subspecies is endemic. Lutruwita was originally derived from the nueonne (Bruny Island) language, but is now the accepted name for the whole island state of Tas in the reconstructed palawa kani (composite Tasmanian) language."
