Global Carex Group (2015), Making Carex monophyletic (Cyperaceae, tribe Cariceae): a new broader circumscription. Botanical Journal of the Linnean Society 179: 29 [nom. nov.]
replaced synonym: Uncinia flaccida S.T.Blake legitimate taxonomic synonym: Uncinia tenella var. robustior Kük. legitimate
  • Etymology: "The first component of the name is from the Latin australis, southern, referring to the Southern Hemisphere occurrence of this species, added to Blake’s original epithet, which refers to the soft-textured leaves of this species, to provide a link between the new name and the original name.
  • Text: "...non Carex flaccida Sw. ex Kunth (1837)."
  • Comment: Wilson indicates that a replacement name for Uncinia flaccida S.T.Blake is necessary due to the pre-existence of "Carex flaccida Sw. ex Kunth". However, the latter is an invalid designation published in synonymy of Carex cladostachya Wahlenb.
