Etymology:
"From the Latin apricus (sunny) and -cola (dweller), in reference to the habitat of this species, which occurs in sunny places in open heath. This differentiates it from the otherwise co-occurring and morphologically similar L. leptostachyum, which grows in shady areas in the surrounding jarrah forest."
