  • Type: Queensland: DarlingDownsDistrict: Private property c. 4 km E of Ballandean, 28 48' S, 151 53'E [precise locality withheld for conservation purposes], J. Holmes 275 & G. Holmes, 11 Nov. 2009 (holo: CANB; iso: BRI, NE).
  • APC Dist.: Qld
  • Etymology: "The specific epithet is from the Latin [inopinatus, unexpected] and is in reference to the surprising discovery of this species in what may have been considered to be a botanically well known district. H. inopinatus appears to be closely related to H. lunatus, H. papillatus and H. montanus, all of which grow nearby in the Tenterfield and Stanthorpe districts in very similar habitat."
