  • Etymology: "Named for Fred Hort (retired Primary School Principal, 1937–) and his wife Jean (1952–), botanical enthusiasts, who have searched for and collected many rare plants in south-west Australia, especially in the eastern jarrah forest, and made most of the earliest collections of this species after having recognised it as a species distinct from P. nigrita."
