  • Etymology: "The name of the new subspecies, P. calycina subsp. proxena, refers to the fact that on superficial examination, the herbarium species of this taxon look nothing like P. calycina subsp. calycina (L. prox-='alike'; L. en - 'indeed?'). It also stands as a memorial to a fallen lesbian hero (L. pro-='alas' or 'for'; Hollywood xena='warrior princess')."
