  • Type: c. 25 km north of the South Coast Highway on the east side of the Denmark-Mount Barker road, 34 45'S, 117 30'E, Western Australia, 4 October 1991, J. Start s.n. (holo: PERTH 01935143).
  • Etymology: "Named after the Start family, including John (1919–) and Helen (1921–), retired at Roleystone, and their sons Tony (1946–, Principal Research Scientist, CALM) and Joff (1948–, businessman and farmer, Albany). All memembers of the family have been exceptionally helpful in bringing to our attention interesting orchids. Joff was involved in the early collection of specimens of Caladenia starteorum [sic], and believed it was a new species."
