• Etymology: "This interesting species commemorates the Bancrofts, father and son, the former the late Dr. Joseph Bancroft, and the latter Dr. Thomas Lane Bancroft, who have done splendid work in the elucidation of the flora of Queensland (to mention only one phase of their scientific activities)."
• Comment: The specific epithet was published by Maiden as "bancrofti" but he also states that the taxon was named in honour of multiple male persons with the surname Bancroft. The epithet is thus corrected here to bancroftiorum in accordance with ICN Art. 60.8(b) (Shenzhen Code, 2018).
