A.D.Chapman, Austral. Pl. Name Index 1936 (1991), treats the name Mariscus laevigatus as illegitimate on the basis that M. laevis Kunth was cited in synonymy. However, as M. laevis Kunth is itself illegitimate M. laevigatus Roem. & Schult. is here treated as a nomen novum.
