"The epithet honours the naturalist and former curator of Burrendong Arboretum, near Wellington, NSW, Peter McDowell Althofer (1918-1991) and his wife and former assistant Hazel J. Althofer (nee Johnston), O.A.M. (1920-), for the inspiration and encouragement provided to the authors by their deep love of the Australian flora."
