• Comment: nom. illeg., nom superfl., as the epithet lappacea was available in Centotheca in 1820 and thus ought to have been adopted by Trinius (ICN Art. 52.1 (Shenzhen Code, 2018)). Trinius may have adopted the epithet latifolia in reference to Holcus latifolius Osbeck, an earlier taxonomic synonym of Cenchrus lappaceus, but he did not cite or otherwise indicate this as the basionym.
