Etymology:
From the Latin clipeus, a shield or, by transference, an object of that form, and -cola, a dweller, referring to the distribution of this species on the mountain ranges representing remnants of the Mt Warning Shield Volcano. This epithet is to be treated as a noun in apposition, and the ending is therefore invariable.
