A long succession of authors tried and failed to validly publish the generic name Oreophylax. The contorted nomenclature was discussed by L.G.Adams, Aust. Syst. Bot. 8: 935-1011 (1995), who treated it as a synonym of his new name Chionogentias.
Glenny, New Zealand J. Bot. 42(3): 361-530 (2004) transferred the Australian species of Chionogentias to Gentianella. This transfer is accepted in Tas, but Chionogentias is retained elsewhere in Australia.
