• Etymology: "The species is named for the Hamersley family, early settlers in Western Australia, who have exerted an important influence in its pastoral development. Edward Hamersley, a member of the Governor's Legislative Council, was 'one of the most liberal promoters of the expedition' led by F.T.Gregory in 1861 to the north-west coast... Gregory named the Hamersley Range in his honour."
