Asteraceae Bercht. & J.Presl
Oncosiphon Källersjö , legitimate, scientific
Källersjö, M. (1988), A generic re-classification of Pentzia Thunb. (Compositae-Anthemideae) from southern Africa. Botanical Journal of the Linnean Society 96: 310 [tax. nov.]
  • Type: Oncosiphon pilulifer (L.f.) Källersjö
pro parte taxonomic synonym: Matricaria L. legitimate pro parte taxonomic synonym: Pentzia Thunb. legitimate
  • Etymology: "The name is derived from the Greek words 'onco-' ( = thick, swollen) and 'siphon' (=tube). It refers to the conspicuously swollen corolla tube which is characteristic of the genus."
  • Comment: Although the species epithets published by Källersjö in this genus indicate neuter gender, the Greek term 'siphon' is masculine and the epithets are thus correctable under ICN Art. 23.5 (Shenzhen Code, 2018).
