Etymology:
"The specific epithet is Latin for smaller or less, and refers to the flowers of B. minor, which are smaller than those of the otherwise similar B. latifolium."

"Brachysema minor has been cultivated in eastern Australian gardens since about 1960 (J. W. Wrigley, pers. comm.) but under the misapplied names 'B. latifolium' and 'B. sericeum'.
