  • Etymology: "Johann Ehrenfried Pohl (1746–1800), German physician, author, member of the German Academy “Leopoldina”. He was professor at the University of Leipzig in Saxony/Germany. Hedwig succeeded him as professor when Pohl went to Dresden as physician at the court of Saxony. In his Species muscorum Hedwig (1801: 171) gives no dedication, but one discovery site of the moss was near Chemnitz in Saxony/Germany."
