Etymology:
"A new specific epithet is needed for this taxon because Maiden's varietal name oxymitra is already in use at the species level for Sarp-capped Mallee, E. oxymitra Blakely, of the central Australian region. The new specific epithet refers to the colour of the flowers (Latin flavidus, yellow)."
