  • Text: "P.W.Leenhouts, Loganiaceae, Fl. Males. ser. I, 6: 358 (1962) applied a broad species concept to S. axillaris and this has often been applied to herbarium specimens of Australian species. The name has also been used in several books on Australian plants e.g. K.A.W.Williams, Native Pl. Queensland 3: 293 (1987). Unfortunately, it is not possible to determine which species is being referred to in such publications because insufficient detail is provided. Strychnos axillaris (s. str.) is a liane, similar to S. minor, but the former has solitary tendrils whereas those of S. minor are paired."
