  • Lectotype: Since no herbarium material of V. spiralis is available for typification amd Micheli provides the earliest known, accurate illustrations of the species, it seems best that these illustrations should be chosen to represent the type. Accordingly I designate Fig. 1 A–K and Fig. 2 L–Q of Plate 10 in Micheli's Nova Plantarum Genera as the syntypes of V. spiralis L. (Fig. 1) and choose his Fig. 1 as the lectotype.
