Etymology:
"[Black left this description and a drawing prepared in his manuscript, but the name he had pencilled in (I. hastata) is preoccupied by a Javanese species of Linnaeus; we have therefore chosen a new specific epithet posthumously; it refers to the Diamantina River where the plant was first collected...—C.M.E.]"
