  • Etymology: "From Latin, robur, said to mean strength or hard wood (George, 1981) and attributed in error by Cavanilles, who believed the species to be a large tree. Other interpretations of the derivation of this name, allude to the resemblance of the timber and leaves to English Oak (Quercus robur)."
