Araceae Juss.
Arum orixensis Roxb. ex Andrews , legitimate, scientific
Andrews, H.C. (1804), The Botanist's Repository for New, and Rare Plants 5: t. 356 BHL [tax. nov.]
  • Type: "This pretty plant is a native of the East Indies ... Our figure was taken, in the month of October 1803, from a plant in the collection of J. Vere, Esq. Kensington Gore."
  • Etymology: "This pretty plant is a native of the East Indies, in that country from which it derives its specific title."
  • Text: "...we submit our judgement to that of Dr. Roxburgh, by whom it has been introduced to us under the name it here bears..."
  • Comment: Stafleu & Cowan, Tax. Lit. ed. 2, 1 (1976) 51 give the author as "probably ... John Kennedy", but as there is no such indication in the work itself, Andrews has been accepted here as the author. Andrews ascribed the species name to Roxburgh but there is no indication that Roxburgh also provided the accompanying description (ICN Art. 46.5 (Shenzhen Code, 2018)).
