  • Etymology: "Seringia was named by Gay (1821) after Nicolas Charles Seringe (1776–1858), in honour of his ‘laude digni monographs of Salicum, Ceralium Rosarumque’. Seringe was a French army surgeon (1796–1801), then becoming a professor of botany and director of the botanical garden at Lyon in 1830–1858 (Stafleu and Cowan 1985)."
