The Australian Plant Census (APC) is a list of the accepted scientific names for the Australian vascular flora, ferns, gymnosperms, hornworts and liverworts, both native and introduced, and includes synonyms and misapplications for these names. The APC covers all published scientific plant names used in an Australian context in the taxonomic literature, but excludes taxa known only from cultivation in Australia. The taxonomy and nomenclature adopted for the APC are endorsed by the Council of Heads of Australasian Herbaria (CHAH).

Infraspecific rank not recognised in SA. S.W.L.Jacobs, Telopea 9: 837 (2002) indicated that Vilfa scabra P.Beauv. was based on "the type of Agrostis scabra R.Br. non Willd.". However, Beauvois, Ess. Agrost. 1: 148 (1812), cites both Agrostis scabra R.Br., nom. illeg. and A. scabra Willd. as doubtful synonyms of his Vilfa scabra. Vilfa scabra P.Beauv. has also sometimes been treated as a synonym of the widespread Agrostis scabra Willd. (e.g. see C.D.Niles & A.Chase, Contr. U.S. Natl. Herb. 24: 158 (1925); R.J.Soreng & P.M.Peterson in R.J.Soreng et al. (eds), Contr. U.S. Natl. Herb. 48: 76-77 (2003)), which does not occur in Australia. Vilfa scabra P.Beauv. is here excluded as a nom. inval., nom. nud. The name “Lachnagrostis scabra subsp. scabra” is listed by A.J.Brown, Muelleria 24: 124 (2006) and by S.W.L.Jacobs & A.J.Brown, Fl. Australia 44A: 189 (2009), but this autonym does not exist, in accordance with ICN Art. 27.2 (Melbourne Code) (2012). -
