Introduction

This species was originally described by Oudemans (1925) as Eschatocephalus ropsteini. That this spelling was deliberate is indicated by the fact that Oudemans three times refers to the eponymous Dr. Ph. Ropstein. However, on finding that the person in question was actually named Kopstein, Oudemans (1926, 1927) corrected this spelling to kopsteini, and this usage has been followed subsequently by, for example, Kohls & Clifford (1968), Roberts (1969, 1970), and others. This emended spelling is retained here in the interest of stability.
