Genus Psephotus Gould, 1845

Psephotus Gould, J. 1845. The Birds of Australia. London : J. Gould Vol. 5(19) 92 pls. [published June 1845, publication dated as 1848 in Vol. 5] [text to pl. 36] [in the bound volumes of Gould's The Birds of Australia, issued in Dec. 1848, Psephotus appears in Vol. 5 with four included species (pls 33–36), none of which were designated as type species; in the issuing of the parts to the work, Psephotus haematonotus (Gould, 1838) in that binonomen appeared first and alone in Pt 19 (June 1845)—this makes Psephotus available there even though Gould did not describe it formally until 1848 in his Introduction to 'The Birds of Australia' [lxvi], issued Aug. 1848, see ICZN Art. 12(b)(5); accordingly, Platycercus haematonotus Gould, 1838 is its type species by monotypy].
