Family PHYLLOBOTHRIIDAE Braun, 1900
Introduction
The Phyllobothriidae are an exceptionally large family of tetraphyllidean cestodes characterised by the presence of four often highly modified bothridia with crenulate margins or numerous internal loculi (Euzet, 1994). The family is almost certainly polyphyletic (Caira et al. 1999, 2001).
Only a small number of Australian representatives of this family have been described. Large numbers of undescribed species are present in the collections of the South Australin Museum.

Introduction
Jensen & Bullard (2010) proposed a classification scheme of 15 metacestode types/forms, of which eight were genetically matched to known genera. The form identified then as 'Larval Type IV (4)' was provided the generic identity of Paraorygmatobothrium. Cutmore et al. (2024) expanded upon the work of Jensen & Bullard (2010), and focused on metacestodes collected from Moreton Bay, Queensland, Australia. Using additional genetic data and updated cestode systematics, Cutmore et al. (2024) recognised 'Larval Type IV' as relating to two genera, Alexandercestus and Scyphophyllidium. See Cutmore et al. (2024) for potential teleost hosts - hosts not listed here as both genera occur in Australian waters, and not all metacestode/host combinations were genetically tested.
