Introduction

The Pediciidae or hairy-eyed craneflies are a family in the cranefly superfamily Tipuloidea, and they are closely related to Limoniidae. They comprises about 500 species worldwide. Like other tipuloids, their wings, legs and abdomen are long and slender. The common name is derived from the short erect hairs between their eye facets (the eyes are usually bare in related tipuloid families).
Two species in the genus Pedicia are known from Australia.
