Introduction
Kottelat (2013) treated the species as Ophiocara ophicephalus Valenciennes, 1837, with Günther (1861) acting as first reviser. Both species were described in the same publication. We retain the name Ophiocara porocephala because it is the name in current useage and because other species are known in the genus, but no revision has resolved the appropriate names.
