Introduction

Species in the family Orthopsyllidae are widely distributed in shallow marine waters from tropical latitudes to the subantarctic. They can also be found in brackish coastal waters (Boxshall & Halsey 2004). One genus and six species are currently described for the family, and of these, one genus and three species are recorded for the Australian fauna.
