Type species:
Macrourus berglax Lacépède, 1801 (Only a single species was listed initially, Macrourus rupestris . The name dates to Gunnerus 1765, which is the type species of Coryphaenoides. The type species from Bloch, 1786 has been regarded as a misidentification of Macrourus berglax Lacépède 1801; we follow current usage.) by monotypy, see Jordan, D.S. 1917. The genera of fishes. Part 1. Stanford University Publications, University Series 27: 1-151 [44].
