Species Hymenocephalus longibarbis (Günther, 1887)

Introduction

Previously the species was considered separate from Hymenocephalus longiceps from Japan, the Philippines, South China Sea and Indonesia with Australian records considered misidentification of H. longibarbis. Schwarzhans (2014) regarded the two as identical.

Extra Distribution Information

South-east of Eyre, WA (33°S, 126°E), west of North West Cape (22°58'S, 113°14'E) to Timor Sea north of Darwin (9°46'S, 130°15'E), and east of Cooktown, QLD (15º30´S) to south-east of Mallacoota, VIC (37º33´S); tropical, temperate, east-Indo-west Pacific (Fiji, Philippines).
